چکیده

Abstract The effects of the cis and trans form of the 4-OMe-phenylazobenzene at 1% and 7% mole fraction on order, mesophase stability and dynamics of the 5CB liquid crystal were studied using the ESR spin probe technique. The presence of the trans azo-derivative induced a downshift of the nematic– isotropic transition temperature TNI which increased with the concentration but did not change the dependence of the order parameter on the reduced temperature. The cis isomer caused even larger TNI shifts, determining a marked decrease of the order parameter with a peculiar dependence on the reduced temperature, quite different from the standard Haller-type behavior. The spin probe dynamics appeared instead to be essentially unchanged by the presence of the azo-derivative.

Temperature Tunability of Dielectric/ Liquid Crystal / Dielectric Photonic Crystal Structures

Recently, photonic crystals doped with liquid crystal (LC) material havegained much research interest. In this article new ternary one-dimensional photoniccrystal introduced and studied. The liquid crystal layer of 5CB and 5PCH is sandwichedby two dielectric layers. For the first time, we use four structures SiO2/UCF35/CaF2,SiO2/5CB/CaF2, NFK51/UCF35/NPSK53 and NFK51/5CB/NPSK53. The effect ofte...

Deuteron NMR study of molecular ordering in a holographic-polymer-dispersed liquid crystal.

Using deuteron nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) and dynamic light scattering, we study the orientational order and dynamics of a BL038-5CB liquid-crystal mixture in a holographic polymer dispersed liquid-crystal material (HPDLC) as used for switchable diffractive optical elements. At high temperatures, where the liquid crystal is predominantly in the isotropic phase, the HPDLC deuteron NMR line...

Effect of Alkyl Tail on the Visible Spectra and Order Parameters S of some Azo N-Ester-1,8-naphthalimide(ANEN) Disperse Dyestuff

This research is an attempt to measure the effect of alkyl tail on the visible spectra and order parameters S of some azo N-ester-1,8-naphthalimide(ANEN) disperse dyestuff. For the first time, the visible absorption spectra of two azo N-ester-1,8-naphthalimide(ANEN) dyes with identical molecular size and diverse alkyl tails were obtained in liquids and liquid crystalline solvent. Ordinary organ...

Non-linear Fractional-Order Chaotic Systems Identification with Approximated Fractional-Order Derivative based on a Hybrid Particle Swarm Optimization-Genetic Algorithm Method

Although many mathematicians have searched on the fractional calculus since many years ago, but its application in engineering, especially in modeling and control, does not have many antecedents. Since there are much freedom in choosing the order of differentiator and integrator in fractional calculus, it is possible to model the physical systems accurately. This paper deals with time-domain id...

Influence of a dispersion of magnetic and nonmagnetic nanoparticles on the magnetic Fredericksz transition of the liquid crystal 5CB.

A long time ago, Brochard and de Gennes predicted the possibility of significantly decreasing the critical magnetic field of the Fredericksz transition (the magnetic Fredericksz threshold) in a mixture of nematic liquid crystals and ferromagnetic particles, the so-called ferronematics. This phenomenon is rarely measured to be large, due to soft homeotropic anchoring induced at the nanoparticle ...
